My partner and I were awarded $1,300 from the to bring this product to campus. The idea stemmed from personal observations in crowded campus spaces like libraries and dining halls, where students often hesitated to share tables due to uncertainty about availability or willingness. This resulted in inefficient space usage and missed opportunities for connection. Inspired by the potential to improve community interaction and optimize space, I envisioned a simple yet effective solution to encourage and facilitate table sharing.

Project Goal
Develop an innovative product to facilitate table sharing in crowded campus spaces, enhancing the utilization of communal areas and improving the social dynamics of sharing tables. The system uses visual indicators (green and red cards) to show availability and preference for sharing a table, addressing the issue of unused seating capacity and social hesitance.

Third Design

When people go to the restroom, they never need to ask or knock on the door to check if someone is inside. They can easily tell if it’s occupied or not. I got this inspiration from the restroom lock, where red and green indicators visually convey the information.
